A Letter from the Mission Study Team—July 2010
When the church seeks to fill a vacant Senior Pastor position, there is an opportunity to assess our current state and future needs. The Mission Study process enables our congregation to listen to how God is moving in our midst and leading us toward his plan for our church. This time of transition from "what has been" to "what can be" serves as a time for reaffirmation, renewal, and rebirth.
The process began in June 2009, when the congregation commissioned the Mission Study Team (MST) with the goal of reflecting on the past, studying and reporting the current culture and health of our congregation, and identifying strategic aspirations of our church. Our charge was to produce a Mission Study report as a guide to the Pastor Nominating Committee (PNC) in its search for our next Senior Pastor, and as support to church leaders and pastoral staff as they carry out First Pres' ministry goals.
The Mission Study Report was completed in June 2010, affirmed and adopted by Session, and approved by the San Francisco Presbytery's Committee on Ministry. You can download or view the final document and selected appendices by clicking links on this page. A complete appendix and a paper copy of the full report (for those without web access) may be requested by contacting Patti Nicolson at email@example.com or at (510) 848-6252 ext. 243.
Our hope is to challenge and encourage the reader to be a part of God's plan for First Presbyterian Church of Berkeley, and to sow the gospel of Jesus Christ through word, prayer, deed, and community, in response to God's great love and for His glory.
