Essential Tenets of the Reformed Faith

With all Christians, we affirm:

  • The Trinity
  • The incarnation of Christ—Jesus as fully God and fully human

With all Protestants, we affirm:

  • Justification by grace through faith
  • Scripture as the final authority for salvation and life of faith

With all those of the Reformed Tradition, we affirm:

  • God’s Sovereignty
  • Election for salvation and service
  • Covenant life together
  • Stewardship
  • The Priesthood of all Believers
  • Transformation of society—seek justice and live in obedience to Word of God

We believe that the essential tenets of the Reformed faith, as expressed in the Confessions of our church, are authentic and reliable expositions of what Scripture leads us to believe and to do. What follows is a concise summary of essential tenets of our faith as taught in Scripture and summarized in the Confessions.

Essential Tenets:

1. Authority of Scripture—“Scripture alone”

2. God—Trinity and Attributes

3. Humanity—Creation and Fall

4. Jesus Christ—Person and Atoning Work

5. Salvation—by Grace Alone through Faith Alone because of Christ Alone

6. The Church

7. The Sacraments
