First Pres Campus Has Officially Reopened

First Pres Campus has officially reopened!  We move forward with renewed faith and new hope as to what will take place on our open campus on Mondays to Saturdays from 7:30 am–10 pm and Sundays 7:30 am–6 pm: The public, including college students, will be present on campus, enjoying the plaza and other spaces and offering opportunities for us to meet and welcome others. Invitation to Pop-Up Church on February 27 Due to the Berkeley Half Marathon road closures, worship on February 27 will be offered online only, but we encourage members and friends of our community to find creative ways to connect and gather during this Sunday. Worship is now available in person and virtually every Sunday. We are grateful to be in community with you and want to share some safety guidelines for worship gatherings in the Sanctuary: Do not come to campus with COVID-19 or even with mild cold symptoms, such as sore throat, dry cough, stuffy/runny nose, headache, and body aches. Face masks are strongly encouraged but are no longer required in the Sanctuary during worship. Full vaccination is recommended including a booster when eligible. Partner with CityTeam Oakland and FirstPres Hayward Shelter and Resource Center to transform local communities by helping to provide shelter, food, and care. CityTeam Oakland Currently CityTeam Oakland is undertaking a huge earthquake retrofit and renovation of their downtown Oakland men’s program building. Unfortunately, the alternate location currently housing the men’s residents will no longer be available beginning Feb. 1, so they have to move out asap. Worship Services and Ministry Programs Offered Online Only Through February 6

First Pres is loving concretely by going virtual January to February 6!  For the safety of our community, the First Pres Coronavirus Task Force has recommended that for the entire month of January through February 6, all worship services and ministry programs be attended online only and not in person. This shift to virtual attendance allows time for the task force to monitor and decide best practices going forward, promoting the health and well-being of all. With an invitation from the The UC Berkeley Chancellor’s office, First Pres has been called to partner with the University to establish a “Sacred Rest” temporary daytime drop-in service center on our campus. What is the Sacred Rest Drop-in Center? In a recent study on the needs of unhoused communities, interviewees highlighted that access to a safe place to rest is essential to their well-being.
