The data is clear: people are leaving the church in significant numbers. One reason suggested by polls and survey data is that people disagree with the church’s stance on social issues. Some think the church is changing too fast, others that it is not changing fast enough.
The letters of John address people who disagree about such theological, relational, and social issues as the identity of Jesus, the meaning of Jesus’ death, the nature of sin, and the Christian community’s relationship to the world.
