We are excited to be working on the revitalization of the patio in front of our Sanctuary: the Front Porch Project. “Front Porch” is a metaphor for extending the welcome of Christ to the community. It signals the hospitality and care that we offer to a guest or neighbor, in advance of even saying hello. It is also the place where we relax, greet one another, and fellowship together.

It’s wonderful to have coffee back on the patio, to be visible, and to provide a welcome to our neighbors along with new and old friends alike. In the past, we’ve used the patio for special services, events, and outreach projects, and we look forward to using it even more going forward.

Here are the parts that make up the Front Porch Project:

  • Bench repair (already in progress)
  • Sustainable landscaping and water-saving irrigation
  • Pole lighting illuminating the entire patio at night
  • A permanent, lighted sign on the corner of Dana and Channing
