Partner with CityTeam Oakland and FirstPres Hayward Shelter and Resource Center to transform local communities by helping to provide shelter, food, and care.

CityTeam Oakland
Currently CityTeam Oakland is undertaking a huge earthquake retrofit and renovation of their downtown Oakland men’s program building. Unfortunately, the alternate location currently housing the men’s residents will no longer be available beginning Feb. 1, so they have to move out asap. There are two ways to offer support:

Building Construction Service Opportunity
Beginning January 8, they are seeking unskilled and skilled people to help with sheet rock, plumbing, and other construction efforts. The sheet rock work is the most imperative so the residents can move back in, and they are willing to teach people each Saturday to move the project forward as quickly as possible. Meal Service Opportunity
Beginning February 1 – March 15  they will need help with meals since the kitchen is not yet available. Meals will be dropped off at 722 Washington St. at 12 noon or 5 pm. For further information or to sign up please see prepared meals.

  • The meals can be for 15-20 and can include:
    • Breakfast – continental style with fruit, breads, baked egg dishes, etc. 
    • Bagged lunches – sandwich, fruit, chips, drink or other 
    • Dinners – casseroles might be easiest, but they are happy with anything
  • Microwaves are available to heat up a plate of food
  • Also in need of utensils and plates 

First Pres Hayward Shelter and Resource Center
Many of the staff team at the Shelter are dealing with COVID and are unable to work, leaving their existing staff to stay for double or triple shifts. Some are working day and night at the moment.

If you are vaccinated (preferably boosted as well), and available for a minimum of a 2-hour period during the times listed below, please contact Aaron, [email protected], or Saundrea, [email protected], immediately or sign up at the links below. Any time you can give would help, as they are trying to avoid shutting down during these cold nights.

Times Available: Every day between 10 am – 4 pm; every day between 6 pm – 8 pm

Food Pantry Tasks Needed: Distributing food to the families that drive through our pantry, pre-packaging of food to be distributed, set-up/tear-down of distribution
Times Available: Weekdays between 8 am – 4 pm; (closed Wednesdays)

Kitchen Tasks Needed: Meal prep (chopping vegetables, etc.), washing dishes, bringing and/or serving meals
Times Available: Every day between 10 am – 4 pm; every day between 6 pm – 8 pm

Together we can give people experiencing homelessness, poverty, hunger and addiction a chance to find help through meeting real needs and to find hope that only God can provide.
