The end is reconciliation; the end is redemption; the end is the creation of the Beloved Community. It is this type of spirit and this type of love that can transform opponents into friends. It is this type of understanding goodwill that will transform the deep gloom of the old age into the exuberant gladness of the new age. It is this love which will bring about miracles in the hearts of humankind.

–The Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

If there is one thing humanity has learned over the course of history, it is that being in community is hard. We can’t survive without each other even though it so often feels like we can’t live with each other. Especially on the precipice of another presidential election, the concept of genuine community feels out of reach. And yet, Jesus continually calls us to imagine the kingdom of God…with each other! As we seek to live into and claim God’s holy dream for humanity, we turn to the wisdom of the Apostle Paul in Romans 12 as well as the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s vision for the Beloved Community as described throughout his many sermons.
