YoungLife's national mission is to reach out to all high school students so every youth has the opportunity to hear the Gospel  and know Jesus Christ. Volunteer leaders educate students on the teachings of Jesus and provide homework help, college  preparation assistance, and basic life skills mentoring for independent living. A great number of these students arrive at OIHS with significant gaps in their formal education, and many have fled war, violence, and extreme economic hardship. OIHS is committed to connecting these students with services that support their transitions and participation in their new US homes. Children Rising: Literacy family pack

EMPOWER A CHILD TO RISE TO HER GOD-GIVEN POTENTIAL CHILDREN RISING is an Oakland nonprofit partnering with under-resourced Oakland public schools to provide life-changing, one-on-one reading and math tutoring for second-grade children who cannot read or count. Church volunteers have tutored these children for more than ten years at various elementary schools in Oakland. Due to COVID, 80% of second-grade children living in our lowest-income neighborhoods are now testing at kindergarten level for reading and math skills. $25 provides half of a family literacy kit that includes guided use of phonics tools, sight words & children’s books.
